General info:
The house is located high up in the village of Ioulis (capital). Parking facilities are available within a 5 minute walking distance (uphill/downhill) but cars can be brought nearer for unloading of suitcases,etc. The village is car-free as it has narrow streets with steps everywhere. A wood fire bakery and mini-market are situated a few blocks from the house. The main square of the village is within 5 minute walking distance (downhill) and 10+ (uphill) – this depends on your fitness! There are several tavernas, cafes and bars around there. Numerous magnificent beaches (remote or more popular) can be reached by car and car rental is available on the island. The Island is renowned for it’s ancient (2000 years plus) footpaths, some leading to archaeological sites. Furthermore, Athens is near enough for a day trip to the Acropolis, subject to boat schedule.

About the island:
Kea is a hiker’s paradise with numbered routes that traverse the entire island and a variety of landscapes. On any hike you can experience several different micro-climates. The island is greener than most of the other Cycladic chain of islands that it belongs to, with thousands of oak and almond trees. There are many remote beaches with crystal blue seas that can only be reached on foot or by boat.
Artifacts found on the island point to a Cycladic civilization as old as 2500 B.C. and 4 important ancient city-states have been discovered. Yet today there are less than 2500 permanent residents settled on 130 square kilometers. It is a quiet, peaceful island and there is a strong sense of the past as one witnesses many of the locals tilling the land with mules, hauling drinking water from springs and heating their homes by fire alone.
To locals it’s Tzia but you’ll find us as Kea on the map. Tzia is only an hour ferryboat journey from the port of Lavrio, near Athens, yet the island has remained relatively untouched by international tourism. In recent years Tzia has become popular with Athenians as a weekend retreat due to its close proximity to the mainland.

About the house:
1st floor
Consists of a veranda about 25 sq.m. (4 x 6.60) and the main house is 60 sq.m. (5 people can sleep)
As you see on the old architectural design, this floor is devided in two parts, left and right.
Left side: has been transformed into one large sitting room with fire place and two windows with view to the sea and sunset. There are two built sofas (1m x 2m each) with big storage spaces under each one, another traditional wooden sofa and an antique buffet. Three persons can sleep in this room.
Right side: has been tranformed in three parts:
– a bathroom, with window to the veranda,
– a small open kitchen, with tall window on the back of the house (second entrance from the terrace) and
– a bedroom with built double bed with storage space, window on the back of the house and fitted wardrobe
Ground floor
it is 54 sq.m. (just finished renovation) and all open, except for the bathroom (3 people can sleep).
As you enter (first room)
– on the left side there is a big fitted wooden wardrobe with an office space and library (on its right side).
– οn the right side there is a built kitchen with wooden cabinets, a window to the outdoor small road and right opposite is the bathroom with built-in shower.
In the second room (sitting room) there is a single iron antique bed, two stone recesses for books or decorative items and a small window.
In the third room (bedroom) there is a built double bed with storage space under it and another small window.
Between the second and third room there is a traditional stone arch, with small built cabinets and storage spaces on both sides (sitting room and bedroom)
In all the ground floor you can see the old stones (except for the bathroom, which has new walls).
Electrical devices
1st floor: refrigerator, small oven, water heater, three major Norwegian thermocouples, bathroom heater.
Ground floor: washing machine, water heater, electric ceramic kitchen (all new, made in germany)
The house has also three-phase electric panel.
