Nestled in the picturesque medieval village of Pyrgos, the three-story imposing Anemoscope Windmill gazes in admiration at the Aegean Sea, the villages, and Santorini’s famous Caldera. The Windmill has 120 sq. meters interior areas on a plot of 180 sq.m. , and is decorated with a composition of traditional and modern vintage style.
The history
Anemoscope has a remarkable story; hence it was one of the five unique windmills of Pyrgos. The official name of the windmill was “Pera Mylos”, it was built in the early 1700 and operated for more than two centuries, located at an ideal location on the island which helped to produce goods under all weather conditions. The windmill stopped operating after the strong earthquake of 1956.
The family, who owns and preserves the windmill after the earthquake, took the initiative to fully renovate it and create a unique lodging place, worth experiencing. Some of the furniture of the villa is either handmade or genuine items found and kept from the past, which now belong to the heritage of the windmill.
Outdoor Areas
Anemoscope Villa occupies a privileged location at the entrance of Pyrgos village. In the outdoor areas, guests may experience the spacious hot tub hydro massage ideal for 4-6 guests, sunbathe, and admire the stunning views. The other side of the terrace features a dining area with a built barbeque ideal to enjoy moments of gatherings and seize your day at home sharing moments of joy, relaxation, and privacy.
The villa has beautiful panoramic views of the sea, the caldera, and the villages.
Interior Areas
Leaving on an authentic windmill is a unique experience. The three split levels of the property have two entrances. Entering from the main entrance, one features a bureau with an armchair, a minibar, and a collection of Greek wines. The upper floor has a bedroom with a double bed, a TV, and a 360◦ view. The second entrance features the lower floor which offers a small living room that could be used as a double bedroom, a bathroom, an additional bedroom with a double bed and an ensuite toilet, a spacious living room with an open plan fully equipped kitchen, and a dining area.
Anemoscope Villa operates all year and can accommodate up to 6 guests.
Location
Pyrgos is located in the south part of Santorini, a hilly village with panoramic views of the whole island. This hillside village was declared a protected settlement in 1995.
Pyrgos is one of the five typical fortified settlements of Santorini. On the hilltop, you can find ruins of the famous central Kasteli. Pyrgos was the capital of Santorini from the middle 18th century, and the center of education, with the secret school church “Agi Apostoli” and the monastery of Prophet Elias.
The picturesque village is preserving its traditional and local architecture with its neoclassical mansions and small white houses, narrow paths leading up the castle, galleries, vineyards, churches and you name it!
Near Pyrgos, one can find the famous Monastery of Prophet Elias, located at the highest point on the island. The monastery operates since 1711 AD and carries a long history as well as encloses an important museum with ecclesiastical items, Icons, and Relics Collection.
